Privacy policy
Semper Math keeps only what Pip needs to teach: a learner's first name, grade, and math progress, under a parent's account. No ads, no tracking, and a parent can delete everything at any time.
Who we are
Semper Math is a brand of The Adelaide Group LLC (“we”, “us”), 130 Bishop Allen Drive, Cambridge, MA 02139. This policy covers three things:
- this website, sempermath.com, including the parent waitlist;
- the Semper Math app, our live tutoring app at app.sempermath.com; and
- how we handle email you send us.
Our free video lessons live on YouTube. When you watch them on YouTube, Google's terms and privacy policy apply, not this one.
The short version
- Semper Math is for learners 13 and older, and every learner belongs to a parent or guardian's account. Children under 13 may not use Semper Math at this time.
- We keep only what Pip needs to pick up where a learner left off: a first name, a grade, and their math progress.
- We do not record voices or keep pictures of the board.
- No ads, no selling or sharing personal information for advertising, and no analytics or tracking cookies.
- A parent can see, export, or delete everything about a learner at any time.
What we collect
From parents and guardians
- Email address. Used to sign you in (we email a one-time link; there are no passwords) and to write to you about your account.
- Your consent records. The date and time you agreed to this policy and confirmed you are a parent or guardian.
- Purchase records. What you bought and when, and how much lesson time is left. Card details go straight to Stripe, our payment processor, and never reach us.
- Settings you choose in the app, such as lesson length and captions.
About each learner, entered by the parent
- First name, grade, and the chalk color they write in.
- Your confirmation that the learner is 13 or older.
Created while a learner uses Semper Math
- Progress on each math skill, quiz results, and which mistakes came up.
- Lesson records: when a lesson happened, how long it lasted, and what was practiced.
- Short notes written by AI after each lesson: a summary for the parent and notes that help Pip plan the next lesson.
From website visitors
- If you join the waitlist: your email address, the date, and your confirmation that you are a parent or guardian 18 or older.
- Like any website, our hosting provider handles basic technical information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect the service. We do not use it to build profiles.
What we never collect
- A learner's last name, birthday, school, home address, or location.
- Photos or video of anyone.
- Recordings of a learner's voice, or saved pictures of their board.
What happens during a live lesson
Pip is an AI tutor. To talk with a learner and read their work, Semper Math sends some information to the AI services that power it, in real time:
- Voice. The learner's voice is streamed to OpenAI's live voice model so Pip can hear and answer. Pip is told the learner's first name and grade so it can speak to them at the right level.
- The board. Pictures of the learner's handwriting on the board are sent to Fireworks AI, which reads the math so Semper Math can check it.
- The lesson summary. At the end, a short log of the lesson (skills, answers, mistakes, time) is sent to Fireworks AI to write the parent's summary.
Semper Math does not record or store the audio or the board pictures. Fireworks AI does not store prompts or outputs for the models we use. OpenAI's API may keep data for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse and misuse, and then deletes it. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default.
How we use information
- To run lessons, check answers, and remember progress between lessons.
- To show parents what their learner practiced and what to work on next.
- To sign parents in, process purchases, track lesson time, and handle refunds.
- To answer your messages and to send account and service emails. We do not send marketing email to learners, ever.
- To keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems.
- To meet legal obligations.
Children and teens
Semper Math is for learners 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 may not use it at this time. Our free video lessons are general audience content on YouTube and collect nothing on our side.
- Every learner belongs to a parent or guardian's account. Learners do not have their own accounts, emails, or passwords.
- Before adding a learner, the parent confirms they are the learner's parent or legal guardian, that they are 18 or older, and that the learner is 13 or older.
- If we learn that a learner is under 13, we delete that learner's information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 is using Semper Math, tell us at privacy@sempermath.com.
- Parents can review, export, correct, or delete a learner's information at any time, and can stop any further collection by deleting the learner or the account. See your choices and rights.
- We collect only what the lesson needs, and we never ask a learner for contact details or other personal information.
When we open Semper Math to children under 13, we will update this policy first and follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, including getting verifiable consent from a parent before any information is collected from a child.
How long we keep information
- Account and learner information: for as long as the account is active.
- A deleted learner: deleting a learner in the app deletes their progress, lesson records, and notes right away.
- A deleted account: email privacy@sempermath.com and we delete the account and everything in it within 30 days, including backups.
- Waitlist emails: until we email you about the launch, or sooner if you ask us to delete yours.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires. These records hold the parent's details, not a learner's.
Your choices and rights
You can, at any time:
- See and export a learner's information from Grown-ups in the app, or ask us for a copy.
- Correct a learner's name or grade in the app, or ask us to correct anything else.
- Delete a learner in the app, or ask us to delete your whole account.
- Stop collection by deleting the learner or the account. Nothing is collected while no one is using Semper Math.
Email privacy@sempermath.com from the address on your account. We answer within 30 days, and usually much sooner. We may need to confirm the request comes from the account holder before we act on it.
Some states give their residents specific privacy rights, such as access, correction, and deletion. We honor those requests from everyone, wherever you live, and we will not treat you differently for making one.
Security
- Everything travels encrypted over HTTPS, and our sites require it.
- Each family's data is locked to that family at the database level (row-level security), so one account cannot read another's.
- Our service keys stay on our servers and are never sent to browsers.
- Access to the systems that hold your information is limited to the operator.
Where information is processed
Semper Math is run from the United States for families in the United States. Our database is in the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will email account holders before it takes effect, and we will ask for consent again where the law requires it.
